Summer Trips 2020
Germany-Poland Summer 2020
Who: Ideally suited to Grade 10 and 11 students who wish to fulfill a Social Studies credit for Graduation requirements.
What: 10 Day Summer Trip to Germany and Poland, plus approximately 8 days of pre and post trip school work.
When: Early July 2020
Where: Fly to Berlin, tour Germany and Poland, and return from Krakow.
The Social Studies Department is offering an alternative way to obtain course credit through meaningful travel and thoughtful activities tied to the places where historically significant events took place. In July 2020, students would travel to Germany and Poland with two or more Brentwood teachers and visit concentration camps, museums, memorials, and other places where key events related to the Holocaust took place. Students who successfully complete course work will earn a credit in Genocide Studies 12. Students are welcome to participate in the trip without completing the course requirements. In order to balance the emotional content of this trip there will also be opportunities for other cultural experiences and historical locations.
Due to the fact that this trip will begin after closing day and during the summer holiday, the trip itinerary will begin at Berlin Airport. Students will be required to travel independently from their home to the Berlin Airport, where they will be met by the trip chaperones. Similarly at the end of the trip, students will travel from Krakow Airport to their home without escort.
We are working with Incredible Journeys Travel to develop the trip itinerary. Cost estimate of $4800 is based on prices that will likely occur for 2020 travel.
Included in this cost:
- all ground transport within Germany and Poland,
- hotels accommodation
- most meals (6 lunches not included)
- admission fees to all historical sights and other attractions
- medical and travel insurance
- airfare from your son/daughter’s home to meet tour escorts in Europe. Flight arrangements would need to have flights arriving in Berlin in early July and departing 10 days later from Krakow, Poland.
- spending money
